Colonia Verde is a Latin American restaurant in the heart of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Using the abundant ingredients of Brooklyn’s local markets and inviting open-fire cooking, CV thrives on the principle that delicious food tastes better when shared. After successful partnership designing and launching Cómodo in SoHo, we partnered again with Tamy, Felipe, and Mac to create Colonia Verde, the hearth of Fort Greene.

Colonia Verde is an inviting, meandering space that uses reclaimed urban materials such as hand-troweled plaster, herringbone brick, blackened steel, hand-hewn beams, and found millwork in a manner reminiscent of the fincas of Latin America. In partnership with designer / builder Matthew Maddy, we creative directed the interiors of Colonia Verde, sourcing Hammered Copper Sconces, hand-blown amber glass pendants, tables from Olga Guanabara, Sheesham Wood Casework, and Craig Bassam tractor stools. Plants and succulents crowd the garden outside the mullioned greenhouse, creating natural alcoves that invite conversation while the fire from the asado ensures CV is the hearth of Fort Greene.

Designed to be a digital hearth for Fort Greene, CV’s website is built to serve as a community hub for events both on property and off, such as the restaurant’s famed Sunday Asados. Serving generously scaled image panels, the site navigates as a series of delicious slides: horizontally by chapter and vertically to engage with detail. Meanwhile, tabletop photography from Hiedi’s Bridge ensures the site delivers on appetite appeal.
Inspired by Chef Felipe Donnelly’s open-fire cooking, Tamy Rofe’s natural wine program, and Mac Osborne’s inviting service, Colonia Verde’s menu and collateral system is simple and approachable featuring natural, uncoated papers flooded with lush greens, melons, and saffrons with hits of copper foil. Simple asymmetric layouts showcase a playful pairing of the hot type inspired geometric sans, Regular ExtraBold, and the hard-working modern serif, Galaxie Copernicus.
